Excruciation

(2019)

A zine in response to August Strindberg's play The Dance of Death and a handwritten letter from 1888, both of which found in the Bishopsgate Institute detailing a writer's failed marriage, this project delves into the complexities of hatred as an emotion born out of love. Initially set within the context of marriage, Excruciation explores how hatred can emerge in any relationship where 'concern' exists. The project suggests that this emotion stems from an unresolved spiritual desire to reconnect with a relationship that has been lost. The bilingual edition was published in collaboration with BetweentheLines.
