Former Haunts

(2024)

Former Haunts is a publication made by the community created during my residency in Dongfeng Committee, Ronggui, Shunde. This project emerged from the Urban Archaeology workshop, which I ‘recruit’ 17 local participants to form an urban archaeological team. The workshop explored how remnants of an obscure past could be reimagined to craft a new narrative for the community by applying ‘Microscratch archaeology’. Participants ventured through Dongfeng's alleys to create rubbings of historical marks they encountered. Through imaginative engagement with these traces, the group developed fictional poetry inspired by their findings. The publication is a creative collection of these collaborative outcomes, preserving and celebrating the hidden past of the city.
