Gugu on the Pasture 牧场上的鸪鸪
(2026)
Gugu on the Pasture is originally a Tibetan folklore collected by Chuang Xue Ben, one of the first ethnographic photographer making visual voices for Tibetan againsting Western gazes of the land in 1940s. During his ten-year residency in Tibet, Chuang documented local tales, one of which had been developed as this picture book. The story follows the sacred bird that brings lush greenery to the Tibetan pasture each summer, symbolizing the cycle of renewal. It highlights the nomadic people's reverence for the bird’s annual arrival. Published with Zhejiang Photographic Press, the project has gained recognition of the first Pictoric Illustration Contest, as the 2nd place of Children’s Book catagory in 2026. This project has also been selected as part of the Wenmai Imprint of Zhejiang Publishing United Group, as well as being awarded as part of the Yuandongli (Driving Force of Originality) China Original
Animation and Publishing Support Scheme 2025.
